Remove & Install Engine Oil Filter Bypass Valve
There is spring force against cover (1). When the bolts that hold the cover in position are removed, the spring force will be released. To prevent possible personal injury, hold the cover in position as the bolts which hold it are slowly removed.
Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. While holding cover (1) in position, slowly remove two bolts (2) and the washers that hold it. Remove cover (1) and the gasket. 2. Remove spring (3) and plunger (4) from engine oil filter base (5). The following steps are for the installation of the engine oil filter bypass valve.3. Check the condition of the gasket used under cover (1). If the gasket is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.4. Put clean engine oil on plunger (4) and spring (3).5. Install the engine oil filter bypass valve in the reverse order of removal.
