Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the exhaust manifolds.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Drain the coolant from the engine.

Remove the bolts that hold the elbows (2) and the other elbows (3) to the turbochargers. Remove the elbow from the pipes.
Remove two pipes (1) from the housing.

Remove the bolt (6) in order to disconnect the linkage to the air inlet choke.
Remove the tube (9).
Remove the bolts (7).
Remove the housing (8) and the gasket. Replace the gasket.
Remove the bolts (5).
Remove the housings (4) and the gaskets. Check the gaskets for wear or damage. Replace the gaskets, if necessary.

Remove the bolts that hold the flanges (10) in place. Remove the flanges and the tube (11) as an assembly.
Remove the bolts and the retainers that hold the tube (12) in place in the elbow (13).
Remove the bolts and spacers (14) that hold the elbow (13) in position. Remove the elbow from the aftercooler and the tube (12).

Remove the wiring (15).
Remove the tube (16).
Remove the tube (17).
Remove the two pipes (18) from the area between the aftercooler housings. Remove the other two pipes (20) from the area between the aftercooler housings.
Remove the bolts that hold two pipes (19) to the rear aftercooler housing.

Disconnect the electrical connection (21).
Remove the tube assembly (22).
Fasten a hoist to the front aftercooler housing. Remove the bolts, and remove the front aftercooler housing from the cylinder block. The weight of the aftercooler is approximately 236 kg (520 lb).

Fasten a hoist to the rear aftercooler housing (23). Remove the bolts (24) and remove the aftercooler. The weight of the aftercooler is approximately 236 kg (520 lb).

Remove gaskets (25) from the cylinder block.
