System Operation Description:The throttle should operate without binding and without excessive drag. When the throttle position sensor is not connected to the throttle, the throttle should return to low idle within one second. The calibration of the throttle position sensor requires the use of the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET).There are two options for the calibration of the throttle position sensor. The set screw for the high idle and for the low idle can be manually adjusted. The other option allows the low idle duty cycle and the high idle duty cycle to be set with Cat ET.

The connection of any electrical equipment and the disconnection of any electrical equipment may cause an explosion hazard which may result in injury or death. Do not connect any electrical equipment or disconnect any electrical equipment in an explosive atmosphere.
Test Step 1. Determine the Type of CalibrationDetermine the type of calibration to use on the throttle position sensor. A manual calibration requires the adjustment of the low idle set screw and of the high idle set screw. Configuring of the calibration requires the use of the actual duty cycle at low idle and at high idle.Results:

Visually inspect the throttle assembly, the throttle linkage, and/or the throttle cable for damage and inadequate maintenance. Ensure that the throttle assembly operates freely.
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Connect Cat ET to the service tool connector.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
