Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the installation procedure, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble.
Check all the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Lubricate all the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Use a suitable lifting device and a hoist to position rod (6) horizontally on wood blocks. The weight of rod (6) is 159 kg (350 lb).
Use Tooling (A) to install one retaining ring (14) to rod (6).
Lower the temperature of bearing (15) to −50 °C (−58 °F). Position bearing (15) into rod (6) until bearing (15) is seated against retaining ring (14).
Use Tool (A) to install the remaining retaining ring (14) into rod (6).

Install plate (12), and ball (13) to rod (6).

Install wear ring (11) to rod (6).
Repeat Steps 3 through 6 for the head of cylinder (16) (not shown). The weight of cylinder (16) is 172 kg (380 lb).

Use a suitable lifting device and a hoist to place cylinder (16) in a vertical position. Support the head end of cylinder (16) in a suitable fixture. The weight of cylinder (16) is 172 kg (380 lb).

Use a suitable lifting device and a hoist to install rod (6) into cylinder (16). The weight of rod (6) is 159 kg (350 lb).

Install lip seal (9) and U-cup seal (10) to head (5).

Install backup ring (7) and O-ring seal (8) to head (5).

Use a suitable lifting device and a hoist to install head (5) to rod (6). Align the bolt pattern in head (5) to the bolt pattern in the cylinder. The weight of head (5) is 39 kg (86 lb).

Install 15 bolts (4) and the washers to head (5). Use Tooling (B) to tighten 15 bolts (4) to a torque of 215 40 N m (159 30 lb ft).

Install cover (3) with two bolts (2) and two washers. Use Tooling (B) (not shown) to tighten two bolts (2) to a torque of 215 40 N m (159 30 lb ft).
Repeat Step 16 for the remaining cover that is on the opposite side of the rear suspension cylinder.

If it is necessary, install three grease fittings (1) to the rear suspension cylinder.
Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease to the grease fittings.End By:
Install the rear suspension cylinders. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rear Suspension (Cylinder) - Install".
