IGBT SIXPACK (4) Procedure
High voltage may be present. Work on this equipment must be performed by authorized trained personnel. Failure to disconnect the power source before performing maintenance or removing modules exposes personnel to electrical potential. Bodily contact with electrical potential will cause serious personal injury or death.
Electrostatic discharge can damage integrated circuits or semiconductors if you touch the connector pins. When not in use, keep modules in static shielded bags. Follow these guidelines when you handle modules:Allow a minimum of 5 minutes for capacitors to discharge.Touch a grounded object to discharge static potential.Wear a wrist-strap grounding device.Do not touch the connector pins.Do not touch circuit components inside the module. If available, use a static-safe work station.
Remove power from the UPS by following the appropriate shutdown routine. Allow at least 5 minutes for the capacitors to discharge to remove any stored energy.ReferenceOperation and Maintenance Manual, "Single UPS Startup and Shutdown" and "Parallel UPS Startup and Shutdown".
Disconnect the wires and disconnect the ribbon cables from the circuit board.
Illustration 3 g02141090
Remove the four screws (5) and the six screws (6) for the power connections.
Illustration 4 g02141097
Remove the bus bar (8) by removing the four screws (8a) and the six screws (8b) from each circuit board.
Remove the circuit board.
Remove the eight screws (7) that are holding the SIXPACK to the heat sink. Refer to Illustration 3.
Remove the SIXPACK.
Illustration 5 g02141117
Cleaning the surface of the heat sink
By using the cloth (2), clean the grease from the surface of the heat sink. Refer to Illustration 1.
Illustration 6 g02141121
The grease has been applied to the SIXPACK.
Apply the thermal grease to the base of the SIXPACK by using the needle (2). Refer to Illustration 1.
Illustration 7 g02141122
Spatula (3a) Straight face (3b) "SIXPACK module" face
Illustration 8 g02141125
The grease is being applied to the SIXPACK.
Spread the grease into a thin layer by using the straight face (3a) of the spatula. Refer to Illustration 7.Hold the face at a slight angle to the base of the SIXPACK and spread the grease evenly across the face.
Illustration 9 g02141128
By using the edge (3b) of the spatula, remove the excess grease from both grooves in the SIXPACK. Refer to Illustration 7.
Illustration 10 g02141130
The spatula should be held perpendicular to the SIXPACK.
Illustration 11 g02141132
The grease has been properly applied to the SIXPACK.
Hold the "SIXPACK module" face (3c) of the spatula perpendicular to the base of the SIXPACK and drag the spatula once across the base. Refer to Illustration 7 and Illustration 10. This action will create a grooved surface in the grease. Refer to Illustration 11.Note: Clean the grooves of the SIXPACK, as required.
Illustration 12 g02141185
Mount the SIXPACK to the heat sink by using the screws (7). Refer to Illustration 3.
Torque the screws to 1 N m (8.85 lb in).The screws must be tightened in the following sequence by starting at screw "2" (7-2) and ending at screw "5" (7-5) :2 > 6 > 3 > 7 > 4 > 8 > 1 > 5
