( 1 ) The 836 Compactors (S/N: 7FR295-UP) that are equipped with the 3408E Machine Engines (S/N: 99C2249-UP) already have the new viscous damper and the updated crankshaft pulley .Special Instruction
Conversion to the new camshaft drive gear and the cluster idler gear requires modifying the inside of the 172-9313 Timing Gear Housing . The timing gear housing must be machined in order to accommodate the increased width of the 195-0318 Gear (Camshaft Drive) .Engines with the 105-9082 Engine Support (Front) must be modified. The 105-9082 Engine Support (Front) must be machined in order to accommodate the installation of the larger diameter 167-8132 Damper Assembly (Viscous). Do NOT modify the front support bracket by flame cutting.Installation Procedure
Reference: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR1063, "Camshaft" for the procedures that are required.
Remove the crankshaft pulley, the viscous damper, and the front engine housing.
Remove the valve lifters and the pushrods.
Remove the camshaft assembly and the cluster gear from the engine.Note: Go to step 6 if the 213-6349 Camshaft Assembly will be used.
Remove the camshaft gear from the camshaft.
Do not use a torch to heat the gear. A torch can unevenly heat the gear causing warpage. The hardness of the gear may also be changed with the use of a torch.
Note: Heat the camshaft drive gear to a maximum temperature of 205 °C (400 °F) for no more than one hour.
Install the new 195-0318 Gear (Camshaft Drive) onto the camshaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR1063 for the proper procedure for removing and installing the camshaft drive gear. Mechanically pressing the camshaft drive gear on the camshaft without heating the camshaft drive gear is the preferred method. Heating the camshaft drive gear is an alternative method for installing the camshaft drive gear.

Machine the engine front cover. Refer to Illustration 1 for the new dimensions.

Note: Do NOT flame cut the front engine support. The front engine support must be machined.
Machine the 105-9082 Engine Support (Front). Refer to Illustration 2 for the new dimensions.Note: The 7E-6385 Engine Support (Front) does not require any modification.
Install the new cluster idler gear.
Install the new camshaft assembly into the engine.
Install the valve lifters and pushrods.
Install the modified front engine cover.
Install the new 167-8132 Damper Assembly (Viscous) or reuse the 6N-2229 Damper group.
Install the crankshaft pulley
