Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you read this information and you understand this information.Problem
Some of the above On-Highway Engines have been receiving a low purge pressure code.Solution
Follow the correct Troubleshooting Guide if any of the above On-Highway Engines have a low purge pressure code. The Troubleshooting Guide may recommend replacing the cylinder assembly. The following Special Instruction provides the proper procedures for replacing the cylinder assembly.Procedure for Disassembly of the Cylinder Assembly

(1) Electronic Component (2) Cylinder Assembly
Remove the air pump from the engine. Refer to the proper Disassembly and Assembly Manual for the removal procedure for the air pump.

(3) Bolts that hold the electronic component and the cylinder assembly together
Remove the bolts that are shown in Illustration 2.

Lightly tap on the cylinder assembly with a rubber mallet until there is enough clearance between the electronic component (1) and the cylinder assembly (2) in order to insert a pry bar. Insert a pry bar between the electronic component and the cylinder assembly. Carefully separate the cylinder assembly and the electronic component by prying.Note: Be careful not to damage the O-ring (4) when you pry on the air pump.

Remove the new cylinder assembly from the package.Note: Do not remove the plastic caps from the new cylinder assembly yet.
Lubricate the new O-ring that came with the new cylinder assembly.
Insert the new cylinder assembly and the electronic component together. Thread in the bolts that were removed in Step 2
Thread in the bolts in a crisscross pattern until the flange of the new cylinder assembly is flush with the electronic component.
Torque the four bolts in a crisscross pattern to 5 N m (45 lb in).
Install the filter for the air pump.
Remove the plastic caps in the cylinder head ports. Install the air pump on the engine. Refer to the proper Disassembly and Assembly Manual for the installation procedure for the air pump.
Perform a test on the air pump. Make sure that the air pump can produce 551 69 kPa (80 10 psi).
