replacement of the ECM, ensure that replacement is absolutely necessary. Rarely is the ECM the cause of a diagnostic code related problem. Always ensure that power is available to the ECM. Battery voltage is required between contact 1 and contact 2 on the machine harness connector for the ECM. Replace the ECM only if all other attempts to isolate the problem have failed.When the ECM must be replaced, perform the following procedure.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Disconnect the machine harness from the ECM.
Remove the ECM.
Make sure the replacement ECM has the correct part number.
Install the replacement ECM.
Connect the machine harness to the replacement ECM.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Calibration" section in this manual. Perform all of the listed calibration procedures. All the calibrations must be performed when the ECM is replaced. Note: Performance will be adversly affected if ANY of the calibration procedures are omitted. Make sure to perform all the calibration procedures.
