The original problem is resolved.Results
ACTIVE: Proceed to Step 2.
NOT ACTIVE: Stop.
Check the sensors.
Use the Caterpillar Monitoring System in order to perform a check of the sensor for the steering and brake control valve.
If necessary, repair the electrical connectors.Reference: Refer to the subject "System Calibrations" under Service Manual, SENR8367, "Component Data Display Modes".Expected Results
The sensors operate properly.Results
OKAY: Proceed to Step 3.
NOT OKAY: Replace the faulty sensor. Check the machine for the original problem. If conditions are not resolved, please call technical support with the information that has been gathered.
Check the brake pressure.
Start the engine.
Operate the engine at low idle.
Disengage the parking brake.
Measure the pressure for each brake at the steering and brake control valve.Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Taps" in this module.Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Charts" in this module.Expected Results
The pressure is correct.Results
OKAY: Proceed to Step 8.
NOT OKAY: Proceed to Step 4.
Check the system pressure. The pressure is checked at pressure tap (E) on the transmission main relief valve.
Operate the engine at low idle.
Press down the service brake pedal in order to engage the brakes.
Place the transmission in the NEUTRAL position.
Disengage the parking brake.
Check the system pressure at pressure tap (E) for the transmission main relief valve.Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Schematic" in this module.Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Taps" in this module.Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Charts" in this module.Expected Results
The system pressure is correct.
The original problem is resolved.Results
OKAY: Proceed to Step 5.
NOT OKAY: The cause of the problem may be the adjustment of the main relief valve. The main relief valve maintains the system pressure in the control section of the power train oil pump. Proceed to Step 3.

Adjust the main relief valve.
Loosen locknut (26). Maintain the position of adjustment screw (27). Note: One turn of the adjustment screw changes the pressure setting by 235 kPa (34 psi).
Turn adjustment screw (27) by the desired amount.
Do not allow the adjustment screw to rotate when you tighten the locknut.
Tighten the locknut to a torque of 18 4 N m (13 3 lb ft).Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Taps" in this module.Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Charts" in this module.Expected Results
The main relief pressure is correct. Results
OKAY: If the original problem is not resolved, proceed to Step 7.
NOT OKAY: Proceed to Step 6.
Follow the procedure in this reference.Refer to "System Pressure Is Low" in this module under Troubleshooting, "Oil Pressure Troubleshooting".Results
REPAIRED OKAY: Stop.
NOT OKAY: Proceed to Step 7.
Manually inspect the steering and brake control valve.
Disassemble the steering and brake control valve. Inspect the valve for damage.Reference: Refer to the procedures in Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Clutch and Brake Control Valve" in the Service Manual for your machine.
Repair the components and/or replace the components, if necessary.
Calibrate the steering clutches.Reference: Refer to Service Manual, SENR8367, "System Calibrations".Expected Results
