BEARING 3H8509 - Caterpillar

Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot a low intake manifold air pressure. Also, use this procedure if the following event code is active.

Troubleshooting Test Step Value Result
1. Check for Codes
A. Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools", if necessary.
B. Download the "Product Status Report" from the engine ECM before performing any troubleshooting or clearing diagnostic trouble codes.
C. Determine if the event code that directed to this story is present.
D. Look for active diagnostic codes that are associated with the system for the event code that directed to this story.
E1045
Result: An associated code is present.
Repair: Troubleshoot any associated codes before continuing with this test.
Result: An E1045 is present.
Proceed to the next step.
Result: No active codes

2. Air Inlet Restrictions
A. Check for restrictions in the air inlet system. Refer to the Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting manual for information on inspecting the air inlet system.
Restriction
Result: The system is OK.
Repair: Proceed to the next step.
Result: A system problem was identified and repaired.
Repair: If the problem is not resolved, proceed to the next step.
3. Air Intake System Piping
A. Look for the following problems in the lines between the turbocharger compressor and the intake manifold:
- Piping that is damaged
- Loose clamps
- Cracked fittings
Repair any problems. Replace parts, if necessary.
Piping
Result: The system piping is OK.
Repair: Proceed to the next step.
Result: A system piping problem was identified and repaired.
Repair: If the problem is not resolved, proceed to the next step.
4. Fuel System
A. Incorrect fuel flow to the engine can cause low intake manifold air pressure. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Fuel Control - Test" in order to test the fuel system.
Repair any problems. Replace parts, if necessary.
