Schematic for the ground speed sensorThis diagnostic code is associated with the ground speed sensor. The FMI 08 means that the ECM has determined that the signal frequency or the signal pulse width is not within the expected range. The sensor is not functioning correctly. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
A component that is internal to the sensor has failed.
A short in the wiring harness
There is an open in the wiring harness.System Response:
As a result of no ground speed information, the Autocarry will not function properly.
The value for the ground speed on the tachometer will be erratic or the value on the display will read zero.
The VIDS parameter for the ground speed on the display will not be available.Note: In order for this diagnostic code to occur, the torque converter output sensor must be functioning correctly. The CID 0672 FMI 08 must not be active.Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure. Test Step 1. CHECK THE SENSOR.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.Note: Do NOT start the tractor.
Disconnect the sensor from the machine harness.
At the harness connector for the sensor, measure the voltage from contact 1 (wire 197-GN) and ground contact 2 (wire 210-BK).Expected Result:The voltage that is measured is between 17 and 33 DCV.Results:
YES - The voltage that is measured is between 17 and 33 DCV. Proceed to test step 2.
NO - The harness that supplies power to the ground speed sensor has failed.Repair: Repair the harness or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE WIRING HARNESS.
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 machine harness connector from the ECM.
The sensor remains disconnected.
At the machine harness connector for the sensor, measure the resistance from the signal contact 3 (wire C913-BU) and ground contact 2 (wire 210-BK).
At the machine harness connector for the sensor, measure the resistance from the signal contact 3 (wire C913-BU) and + battery contact 1 (wire 197-GN).Expected Result:The resistance that is measured is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
YES - The resistance that is measured is greater than 5000 ohms. The resistance of the harness is correct. Proceed to test step 3.
NO - The resistance measures less than 5000 ohms. The machine harness has failed.Repair: There is a short between the signal contact J1-24 and the circuit with the low resistance measurement. Repair the harness or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK FOR AN OPEN IN THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT.
The sensor and the ECM remain disconnected from the machine harness.
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
Measure the resistance of the signal circuit from contact J1-24 (wire C913-BU) to contact 3 (wire C913-BU) of the sensor.Expected Result:The resistance measures less than 5 ohms.Results:
YES - The resistance measures less than 5 ohms. The signal circuit is correct. The speed sensor has failed or the ECM may have failed.Repair: Replace the speed sensor. It is unlikely that the ECM has failed.
