Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the first reduction gears from the winch. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Gear Group - Disassemble".
Remove the hydraulic motor from the winch only if you are removing the cartridge assembly as a unit. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Hydraulic Motor - Remove".

A     -     Eyebolt (3/4-16 THD)     1    Note: The cartridge assembly consists of the following parts: motor coupling, retaining ring, brake cylinder assembly, thrust ring, sun gear, planetary carrier assembly, pinion and carrier group, O-ring seals and bolts. The cartridge assembly can be removed as a unit for servicing. However, removing the cartridge assembly requires removal of the winch from the tractor and removal of the winch motor. The individual components within the cartridge assembly can be serviced with the winch on the tractor.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove bolts (6) which fasten cartridge assembly (2) and (3) to the winch case.
Remove plug (5) from the pinion and carrier group (3). Install Tooling (A) in place of the plug. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). The cartridge assembly weighs approximately 55 kg (122 lb).
Remove bolts (4) which fasten the pinion and carrier group (3) to brake cylinder assembly (2). Install two of the bolts (6) in place of bolts (4) which were removed in Step 1.
Pull on the bolts in order to remove the cartridge assembly from the winch case.
Place the cartridge assembly on a suitable work surface. Remove the bolts which were installed in Step 3. Remove Tooling (A) and install plug (5) .
Inspect O-ring seals (1) for wear or for damage. Replace the O-ring seals, if necessary.
