Perform this maintenance with the engine stopped.
If the crankcase breather is not maintained on a regular basis, the crankcase breather will become plugged. A plugged crankcase breather will cause excessive crankcase pressure that may cause crankshaft seal leakage.

Loosen hose clamp (1) and remove hose (2) from valve cover (3).
Remove the valve cover (3). Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual.

Wash breather (4) in solvent that is clean and nonflammable. Allow the breather to dry before installation.
Install the valve cover (3). Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual.
Install hose (2) on valve cover (3). Install hose clamp (1).
