(30)Drive Shaft Universal Joints
Lubricate the drive shaft universal joints with a lever-type, hand-operated grease gun. Pressure air operated lubricating equipment can damage the seals.
1. Lubricate 1 fitting on each rear shaft universal joint. 2. Lubricate 1 fitting in the front shaft universal joint. 3. Lubricate 1 fitting in the front universal of the center shaft. 4. Lubricate 1 fitting in the rear universal of the center shaft. Total of 5 fittings.(31)Transmission
Hot oil and components can cause injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin.
The machine must be level and the oil warm. Lower the bucket with slight down pressure. Apply the parking brake. Stop the engine. 1. Remove the transmission drain plug. Drain the oil.2. Change the filter element [see item (28)]. 3. Remove the magnetic strainer cover. 4. Remove magnet assembly and the screen.
When using pressure air, wear a protective face shield and protective clothing. The maximum air pressure must be below 30 psi (205 kPa) for cleaning purposes.Use all cleaning solutions with care.
5. Remove the magnets from the screen. 6. Wash the screen in clean, nonflammable solvent.
Do not drop or rap the magnets against hard objects. Replace any damaged magnets.
7. Clean the magnets with a cloth, a stiff bristle brush, or pressure air. 8. Insert the magnets into the screen. Insert the screen and magnet assembly into the housing. 9. Clean the cover and inspect the gasket. Replace the gasket if necessary. Install the cover. 10. Clean and install the transmission drain plug. 11. Remove and discard the transmission breather. Install a new breather. 12. Fill the transmission. See REFILL CAPACITIES. Start the engine and allow the oil to circulate. Check for leaks. 13. Operate the loader a few minutes and measure the oil level. 14. The level should be to the FULL mark on the dipstick. Add oil if necessary.(32)Drive Shaft Support Bearing
Lubricate 1 fitting.(33)Frame Lower Pivot Bearing
Lubricate 1 fitting at the lower pivot pin.(34)Drive Shaft Spline
Straighten the machine and connect the anti-pivot link after servicing the drive shaft spline.
1. Disconnect the anti-pivot link. Start the engine. Turn the machine full right or left. Lower the bucket with slight down pressure and set the parking brake. Shut off the engine. Turn off the disconnect switch and remove the key. 2. Lubricate 1 fitting. 3. Start the engine, straighten the machine, and reconnect the anti-pivot link.(35)ROPS (Rollover Protective Structure)
To avoid possible weakening of the ROPS (Rollover Protective Structure), consult a Caterpillar dealer before altering the ROPS in any way. The protection offered by the ROPS will be impaired if it has been subjected to structural damage or has been involved in an overturn incident.
Inspect the ROPS structure. Tighten the mounting bolts to 265 35 lb ft (355 45 N m).
