Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin. Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
1. Disconnect and plug two hose assemblies (1).2. Remove four bolts (2) from power train priority valve (3). Remove the priority valve. The following steps are for the installation of the power train priority valve.3. Use four bolts (2) to install priority valve (3) to the torque converter.4. Tighten four bolts (2) to a torque of 35 3 N m (26 2 lb ft).5. Connect two hose assemblies (1) to priority valve (3).6. Fill the transmission to the correct level. Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the proper oil and proper filling procedure.End By:a. install hydraulic fan drive pump ** These operations are in the Machine Systems Disassembly & Assembly module.Disassemble Priority Valve (Power Train)
Start By:a. remove priority valve (power train) 1. Remove four bolts (1) and the washers. Remove two covers (2) from valve body assembly (3). 2. Remove spring (4), shims (6) and spool assembly (5) from valve body assembly (3).3. Remove O-ring seal (7) from each cover (2). 4. Remove slug (8) from spool assembly (5). 5. Use Tooling (A) to remove retaining ring (9). 6. Remove ball (10), spring (12) and retainer (11) from spool assembly (5).Assemble Priority Valve (Power Train)
1. Be sure all parts of the power train priority valve are thoroughly clean prior to assembly. Put clean oil on all internal parts of the valve.2. Check the condition of the O-ring seals used in the power train priority valve. If any of the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement. 3. Install ball (10), spring (12) and retainer (11) in spool assembly (5). Use Tooling (A) to install retaining ring (9).4. Install slug (8) in spool assembly (5). 5. Install O-ring seal (7) and cover (2) on the valve body.6. Install spring (4), shims (6) and spool assembly (5) in valve body assembly (3).7. Install O-ring seal (7) and cover (2) on the valve body.End By:a. install priority valve (power train)
