Identification of the cover and the inlet manifold (A) 271-9248 Valve Manifold Gp or 269-9397 Valve Manifold Gp (B) 269-9398 Valve Manifold Gp or 288-4049 Control Manifold Gp
Determine the part number for the cover on the main implement control valve. Refer to Illustration 1
A valve body stamp of 288-4048 Control Manifold Gp will indicate that a 288-4049 Control Manifold Gp is used. This body stamp will only be on the 973D Track-Type Loader. If the 288-4049 Control Manifold Gp is used, then a change to the orifice in the inlet manifold is not required.
A valve body stamp of 254-5626 Inlet Manifold indicates a 269-9398 Valve Manifold Gp. This body stamp will only be on the Medium Wheel Loaders. When the 269-9398 Valve Manifold Gp is called for, a 271-9248 Valve Manifold Gp or 269-9397 Valve Manifold Gp will be present. When either of these valve manifold groups are present, the system will require replacing the 1 mm (0.04 inch) 1T-0936 Orifice with a new 1.5 mm (0.06 inch) 096-3831 Orifice .

If the main implement control valve incorporates a 269-9398 Valve Manifold Gp, replace the 1 mm (0.04 inch) 1T-0936 Orifice with the new 1.5 mm (0.06 inch) 096-3831 Orifice in the 269-9397 Inlet Manifold Gp or 271-9248 Inlet Manifold Gp. Torque plug to 10 2 N m (88 18 lb in). Replacing the o-ring seal is recommended that 3J-1907 O-Ring Seal on the 148-8407 Plug Assembly should be replaced after accessing the orifice.

Replace the 254-5789 Margin Relief Valve with the new and improved 328-0730 Margin Relief Valve in the 269-9398 Valve Manifold Gp or 288-4049 Control Manifold Gp. Torque the new margin relief valve to 185 18 N m (136 13 lb ft).When the 148-8407 Plug Assembly is removed in order to replace the 1 mm (0.04 inch) 1T-0936 Orifice with the new 1.5 mm (0.06 inch) 096-3831 Orifice, the 3J-1907 O-Ring Seal should be replaced.
