"FNR" shift handle - AutoshiftThe "Autoshift" system consists of one main electronic control module (ECM) and the shift handle. The system consists of the Machine Electronic Control Module (ECM) and the "FNR" shift handle. The Machine ECM energizes six solenoids for "Autoshift" and two solenoids for the standard shift that control the speed and the direction of the transmission. The system automatically selects the transmission gear in response to the speed of the machine in the "AUTO" mode. This provides the most efficient operation that is within the maximum limit of the gear that is selected. The lever is used in order to request a speed and a direction. The shift handle communicates over the Cat Data Link to the Machine ECM.

"FNR" shift handleThe machine electronic control module shifts the transmission. The following components are used by the control module:
Transmission Speed Sensor
Shift Lever - "FNR" Autoshift
Shift Lever - Standard Shift
Switches
Output DriversThe electronic models of the backhoe loader shall have two physical configurations of the transmission:
Standard Shift with ON/OFF, electronic control over the mechanically modulated forward and reverse clutches (mechanical gear selection)
Five (5) Speed Autoshift - On/Off, electronic control over the forward high, forward low, reverse and three speed clutch solenoids, & transmission output speed sensor (needed for shift points.)The standard shift configuration uses a column mounted "FNR" shuttle handle. The "Autoshift" configuration uses a column mounted CDL twist grip shift lever. The configuration for the standard shift is found on all 414E and 416E machines that are not equipped with an Acugrade system. The transmission system reads several inputs in order to control transmission gear, direction, and shifting. The transmission's electronic control system consists of the following components:
Machine Electronic Control Module
Auto/Manual Switch
Neutral Lock Switch
Shift Lever Control Module - "FNR" Autoshift or "FNR"
Neutralizer/Downshift Switch
Parking Brake Switch
Transmission Speed Sensor
Transmission Solenoids
Ride Control Switch ( 414E, 416E, 420E and 430E)
Ride Control Disable Switch ( 414E, 416E, 420E and 430E)
Ride Control Relay ( 414E, 416E, 420E and 430E)In the "FNR" Shift Handle - Autoshift switches, sensors and the shift lever provide input to the Machine ECM. The control module processes the information. The control module then activates the appropriate transmission solenoids. The "Autoshift" system consists of one main electronic control module (ECM) and the "FNR" shift handle. The Machine ECM energizes six solenoids for the "Autoshift" function and two solenoids for the standard shift function. These solenoids control the speed and direction of the transmission. The system automatically selects the gear of the transmission in response to the speed of the machine while the machine is in the AUTO mode. The "Autoshift" system provides the most efficient operation of the machine within the maximum limit of the gear that is selected. The "FNR" shift handle communicates to the Machine ECM over the Cat Data Link.Actuation of the neutralizer/downshift switch will signal the Machine ECM to neutralize the transmission. When the transmission is neutralized, only the speed clutch solenoid is active. The speed clutch solenoid and the directional
