Information:
Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot a high differential pressure for the air inlet system. Use this procedure if one of the following event codes are active. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Event Codes" for information about event codes. Access the engine monitoring system on Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) in order to view the current trip points for these codes. For information on the engine monitoring system, refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Monitoring System".Clear all "Active" codes using Cat ET before proceeding with the following procedure. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Diagnostic Capabilities - Clearing Active Codes for On Board Diagnostics (OBD)" for more information on clearing "Active" codes.
Table 1
Diagnostic Trouble Codes for a high differential pressure for the air inlet system
Code    J1939 Code    Description
(Code descriptions may vary)    System Response
E583(1)     107-15     High Air Inlet #1 Differential Pressure     The air filter differential pressure is above the trip point pressure for the delay time.
The code is logged.
E583(2)     107-16     High Air Inlet #1 Differential Pressure     The air filter differential pressure is above the trip point pressure for the delay time.
The code is logged.
The engine power is derated.
Table 2
Troubleshooting Test Steps    Values    Results
1. Check the Air Filter Element
A. Check the air intake system for plugged air filters or for damaged air filters. If the engine is equipped with an air intake precleaner, verify the proper operation of the air intake precleaner.

Plugged air filter

Result: The air filter is clogged.
Clean or replace the air filter. Verify that the problem is resolved.
Result: The air filter is not clogged.
Proceed to Test Step 2.

2. Check the Air Inlet Piping
A. Check the air inlet piping for damage or restrictions.

Damaged air inlet piping

Result: The air inlet piping is damaged or has restrictions.
Repair the piping or replace the piping. Verify that the problem is resolved.
Result: The air inlet piping does not have damage or restrictions.
Proceed to Test Step 3.

3. Check the Atmospheric Pressure Sensor, Turbocharger Compressor Inlet Pressure Sensors, and/or Sensor Circuits
A. Use Cat ET to compare the value of the following parameters while the engine is off:
1. "Atmospheric Pressure"
2. "Turbocharger #1 Compressor Inlet Pressure (absolute)"
The value for air filter restriction is a calculated value. Before Cat ET reports the status parameters for air filter restriction, the engine must be running for 3 minutes. Cat ET will report "Conditions Not Met" for these parameters prior to this delay time.

Damaged sensors

Result: The sensors and sensor circuits are OK.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result: The sensors and sensor circuits are not OK.
Repair or replace the sensors and/or sensor circuit. Verify that the problem is resolved.

4. Check for an Active 274-13 or 108-13 Diagnostic Trouble Code
A. Establish communication between Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) and the Electronic Control Module (ECM). Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools", if necessary.
B. Check for an active 274-13
