A CID 1175 FMI 03 diagnostic code is recorded when the Electronic Control Module (ECM) reads the voltage of the sensor as above normal. Some of the possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed here:
The Keyswitch (wire 113-OR(Orange)) to the sensor is open.
The Return (wire J879-GN(Green)) is open.
The signal (wire J822-WH(White)) is shorted to + battery.
The signal (wire J822-WH(White)) is open or the sensor is disconnected.
The mechanical linkage for the sensor has failed.
The sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.A symptom that is associated with this diagnostic code would be an incorrect reading on the gauge for the position of the dump body.Ensure that the CID 1175 FMI 03 is active. This procedure can cause new diagnostic codes to be recorded. Ignore the diagnostic codes that are created as a result of performing this procedure. When the procedure is completed, clear the diagnostic codes.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR BATTERY VOLTAGE AT THE SENSOR
Turn the machine keyswitch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe into contact "A" at the back of the harness connector for the sensor. Insert the other probe into contact "B".
Measure the voltage. Expected Result:The voltage reading is between 18 VDC and 24 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage is between 18 VDC and 24 VDC. Proceed to test step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage is 0 VDC.Repair: Check the breaker for the controller circuit for the chassis in the cab of the vehicle. Check all related connections in the harness. Retest the voltage.STOPTest Step 2. INSPECT THE MECHANICAL LINKAGE NEAR THE SENSORPerform the testing and adjusting procedure for the body position sensor for the model of truck that is serviced. This procedure is located in the Testing and Adjusting section for the Hydraulic System of the truck.Expected Result:The mechanical linkage is operating properly. Results:
OK - The mechanical linkage is operating properly. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The mechanical linkage is not operating properly.Repair: Repair any components in the mechanical linkage for the sensor.STOPTest Step 3. TEST THE DUTY CYCLE OF THE BODY POSITION SENSORThe duty cycle is tested in this procedure with Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET). For more information about Cat ET, refer to Troubleshooting, "Service Tools".Note: This test is performed with the body in the down position.
Turn the disconnect switch and the keyswitch to the ON position.
Ensure that the body is completely in the down position.
Use the following procedure in order to check the duty cycle of the sensor with Cat ET.
