Remove the existing locking rod, spring, washer, and cotter-pin. Refer to Illustration 2.

Assemble plate (1) to the hand rail using two clips (2), two clips (3), two grommets (4), two bolts (5), four hard washers (6), and two nuts (7) .Note: Do not tighten hardware at this time.

Position bracket (8) and install pin (9) through and secure to plate (1). Secure pin (9) to bracket (8) using lanyard (10), cable splice sleeve (11), bolt (12), washer (13), and nut (14) .

Adjust the position of plate (1) and bracket (8) until pin (9) goes completely through all three holes. Tack weld bracket (8) in place.

Weld bracket (8) to the hand rail using a 3 mm (0.12 inch) flare bevel weld on the top on both sides.
Tighten all mounting hardware.

Fabricate a plate (J) with the dimensions shown in Illustration
Install conical bumper (15) to plate (J) using one washer (16) and one nut (17) .

Put the handrail assembly in the stowed position and pin into place. Locate plate (J) with conical bumper (15) and bracket (18) such that conical bumper (15) is touching bracket assembly (18). Refer to Illustration 8. Mark the locations of plate (J) and bracket (18) .

Weld plate (J) in the marked position using a 3 mm (0.12 inch) flare bevel weld on both sides.

Drill two 13.5 mm (0.532 inch) M10 holes in the marked position for bracket assembly (18) and fasten the bracket to the kick plate using two bolts (19) and two hard washers (20) .The new rear access locking bracket system is adaptable to FDB1-1838 and effective with FDB1839-UP.
