Attach. (1-Rework Procedure)
Rework Procedure
Inspect the failed generator and determine if the windings are shorted.
***** Group 1 *****
If the windings are failed, to determine if the generator is a 1605865 (15 kW), look at the nameplate and verify the part number. See Illustration 1.
***** Group 2 *****
If the windings are failed, to determine if the generator is a 1611186 (20 kW), look at the nameplate and verify the part number. See Illustration 1.
***** Group 3 *****
If the windings are failed, to determine if the generator is a 1984567 (25 kW), look at the nameplate and verify the part number. See Illustration 1.
If it is determined that the cause of the failure for the above generator set is a shorted winding place an order for the parts listed in this program.
Use the procedure outlined in RENR3128-01 to remove and install the generator and generator drive. Components that will be changed out are the insert - coupling, mounting group - motor, coupling-motor, coupling-generator and generator. See the attached Rework Procedure.
Inspect the rating of the main fuse, which is found in the solid state controller box. See Illustration 2. Use the chart to determine the correct fuse for the machine and generator kW rating. Change the fuse if it is not correct.
Adjust the relief valve, RV01 (stamped on the valve body), on the hydraulic manifold for the generator. See Illustration 3. To adjust the relief, loosen the jam nut, turn the screw in until it just makes contact with the seat and then back the screw off 1/4 turn. Tighten the jam nut. This is the correct setting for the relief and will properly protect the generator during an overload.
Determining if the Generator is failed:
Remove the junction box cover located on the generator.
Separate the wire connections of the circuit that is to be tested.
Remove the rear louver covers of the generator to facilitate troubleshooting.
A megger will be needed to check for grounded coils of the generator circuits. An ohmmeter will also be required to perform troubleshooting of the generator.
Armature:
To check the armature for a ground, connect one lead to the motor frame and the other to either the A1 or A2 lead. If the armature is grounded, the megger will indicate less than 1 Meg ohm.
To determine if the armature has an open circuit. Use an ohmmeter to read the resistance. Connect the ohmmeter to the A1 and A2 leads. If there is an open circuit the resistance will be infinite (out of limits).
To check the armature for a short an ohmmeter is needed. Place the ohmmeter between the A1 or A2 wires. If the resistance is below .3 ohm the armature may be shorted.
Shunt field circuit:
The shunt coil connections, F1 and F4, need to be separated and one lead of the megger connected to one of the shunt coil
