Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan - Remove and Install".
Remove the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Note: Rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks on the following gears are aligned: crankshaft gear, camshaft gear, fuel injection pump gear and idler gear (1) .
Use a suitable puller to remove idler gear (2) .
Use a suitable puller to remove crankshaft gear (3) from crankshaft (4) .Note: Do not use a flame on the crankshaft gear for removal purposes.Note: Be careful not to damage the bearing journal surface of the crankshaft.Installation Procedure

Heat crankshaft gear (3) in a radiant oven to 180 °C (356 °F).
Install crankshaft gear (3) on crankshaft (4) with the timing marks toward the front.
Install idler gear (2) .Note: Ensure that the timing marks on the crankshaft gear, the camshaft gear, and the fuel injection pump gear are aligned with the timing marks on the idler gear (1) .End By:
