Scope
This section contains general installation instructions for the control. To help determine the best location for the control, the following information is included: power requirements, environmental precautions and considerations for location. Additional information includes the following items: unpacking instructions, electrical connections and installation procedures.Unpacking
Read the Service Manual, "Electrostatic Discharge Awareness" before handling the control. Unpack the electronic control carefully. Look for the following signs of damage on the control: bent panels, scratches, loose and broken parts. If any damage is found, immediately notify the sender.Power requirements
The control requires a voltage source of 18 to 40 VDC. The power source must supply 40 Watts and 7 amperes.
To prevent damage to the control, do not exceed the input voltage range.
Note: If a battery is used for operating power the battery must maintain a stable supply voltage. Use an alternator or a battery charger in order to maintain a stable voltage.
To prevent damage to the control, make sure that the alternator or other battery charging device is turned off or disconnected before disconnecting the battery from the control.
Location Considerations
Use the following requirements to select an acceptable mounting location:
adequate ventilation for cooling
space for servicing and repair
protection from direct exposure to water
protection from condensation
protection from high voltage or high current devices, or devices which produce electromagnetic interference
avoidance of vibration
selection of a location that provides an operating temperature range of -40 to 70 °C (-40 to 158 °F)The control must not be mounted on the engine.Internal Jumpers
The control has ten internal jumpers with two positions. The jumpers are located on the top of the printed circuit board. The labels for the jumpers are "JPR1" through "JPR20". If you need to change any jumpers in order to match the needs of your control, see this Service Manual, "Electrostatic Discharge Awareness" before proceeding.Remove the power. Remove all of the connections to the control. Wait for at least 45 seconds and then remove the cover of the control. With your fingers or a small pair of pliers, carefully remove the appropriate jumper and replace the jumper securely over the proper two connectors.The following table lists the options that are available for jumpers.
