Remove the transmission. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission - Remove".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to transmission (1) . Position transmission (1) on Tooling (B) . The weight of transmission (1) is approximately 544 kg (1200 lb).

Remove plug (2) and bolt (3) .

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (4) . The weight of torque converter (4) is approximately 125 kg (275 lb). Remove torque converter (4) .
