Information:

Remove Left Camshaft Housing
preparatory steps: a) remove left air cleaner housingb) remove valve coversc) remove fuel injection lines (left side)1. Drain the jacket water cooling system.2. Rotate the crankshaft to top dead center compression stroke No. 1 piston. See LOCATING TOP DEAD CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING. 3. Remove tachometer drive and Service Meter (1).4. Remove the left exhaust manifold heat shield water supply line (2).5. Remove the camshaft housing end cover (3). 6. Remove the camshaft housing mounting bolts (4), nuts (5), and locks.7. Remove the inner fuel injection lines (6).8. Remove the remaining camshaft housing mounting bolts.9. Install two 3/8" - 16NC forged eyebolts in the camshaft housing. Attach a hoist and remove the left camshaft housing - weight 120 lbs. (54 kg).Install Left Camshaft Housing
1. Adjust all valve lash adjustment screws for maximum valve clearance. 2. Align the phasing gear timing marks, and install the camshaft timing pin (1) in the inlet camshaft timing slot.3. Check to be sure that the crankshaft is at TDC compression position for No. 1 piston. The crankshaft will also be in this position if: (a) The timing pin can be inserted into slot in fuel injection pump camshaft as outlined in FUEL INJECTION PUMP CAMSHAFT TIMING in TESTING AND ADJUSTING(b) The timing pin for the right camshaft housing will drop into timing slot in right inlet camshaft (if the housing has not been disturbed).
If above procedure relating to valve lash, camshaft timing marks, and crankshaft position is not followed, damage to the engine can result.
4. Attach a hoist and position the camshaft housing on engine making sure that exhaust camshaft gear and drive gear are meshed. Install the camshaft housing retaining bolts, nuts, and locks.5. Install the inner fuel injection lines. Tighten retaining nuts to 30 5 lb. ft. (4,1 0,7 mkg).6. Install the camshaft housing end cover.7. Install the Service Meter and tachometer drive.8. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield water supply line.9. Remove all timing pins from their timing slots. Install timing pins in their respective storage positions.10. Fill the jacket water cooling system.concluding steps:a) install fuel injection lines (left side)b) install left air cleaner housingc) adjust valve clearanced) install valve covers
