Remove the hydrostatic power control unit. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydrostatic Power Control Unit - Remove".Note: The following procedure describes the removal of the pump head and/or the removal of the barrel assemblies in troubleshooting applications.
Illustration 1 g00729602
Remove tube assembly (1) between the charge pump and the oil pan.
Illustration 2 g00729603
Remove manifold bolts (3) and the bolts (2) that fasten the oil filter housing to the pump head assembly.
Illustration 3 g00729604
Disconnect the upper end of hose assembly (4). The tube and the hose assemblies that connect the pump head to the transmission case must be disconnected or removed.
Illustration 4 g00729605
Remove plugs (5) and the springs from each side of the head assembly that hold the anchor pins in position in the head assembly.
Illustration 5 g00729606
Fabricate a steel plate (6) with dimensions 6.4 mm (0.25 inch) by 50 mm (2 inch) by 102 mm (4 inch). Make a hole with 20.5 mm (0.807 inch) diameter in the center of the plate.
Install plate (6) on the transmission drive shaft with a bolt 3/4 - 10 inch that will bottom out and allow the plate to rotate freely.
Illustration 6 g00729607
Install Tooling (A) on the pump head. Install a hoist on the bracket.
Pull the pump head far enough away from the transmission so anchor pins (7) can be removed.
When the head is removed, do not let the port plates fall from the head. The port plates are made of bronze and are easily damaged. Give extra protection to both sides of the port plates and the surface of the head that comes in contact with the port plates.
Remove the head from the transmission. Check that the port plates are not dropped when the pump head is removed.Note: Do the following steps only if the barrel assemblies must be removed.
Illustration 7 g00729608
To prevent damage to the surface of the barrel, position Tooling (B) or Tooling (C) correctly.
Install Tooling (D), and remove bearings (8) from the barrel assembly.
Remove barrel assembly (9) from the swashplate and the pistons.
