Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Lower all implements to the ground. Install the steering frame lock.
Support the frame with a suitable jack on both sides of the lower hitch.

Remove plate (2). Replace pin (1) with a 163-5979 Lower Pin .

Install 158-2297 Lock Plate (3) with four 5K-7143 Bolts. Torque the bolts to 5 N m (3.7 lb ft).Note: Four additional 5K-7143 Bolts may be used to secure the 158-2297 Lock Plate. Four 1/2" - 13 thread holes will need to be tapped into the frame for the four extra bolts. The extra bolts are recommended, but not necessary.
Measure the gap between the frame and 158-2297 Lock Plate (3). Measure the gap around the entire circumference.
Install 187-1653 Shims (4) under 158-2297 Lock Plate (3). The thickness of 187-1653 Shims (4) is equal to the minimum measurement that was found in Step 5 minus 0.25 mm (.01 inch). Install all of the 5K-7143 Bolts with 5P-8245 Washers. Torque the bolts to 100 N m (74 lb ft).Note: An alternate method is also used to determine the correct amount of shims. After Step 4, install the amount of shims that is required to fill the minimum gap between the frame and 158-2297 Lock Plate (3). Remove the shims. Remove 0.25 mm (.01 inch) of shim from the stack. Install the shims between the frame and 158-2297 Lock Plate (3). Install all of the 5K-7143 Bolts with 5P-8245 Washers. Torque the bolts to 100 N m (74 lb ft).
Install 163-5980 Plate (5) with three 8T-4183 Bolts. Torque the bolts to 5 N m (3.7 lb ft).
Measure the gap between 163-5980 Plate (5) and 158-2297 Lock Plate (3). Measure the gap around the entire circumference.
Install 188-1743 Shims (6) between 158-2297 Lock Plate (3) and 163-5980 Plate (5). The thickness of 188-1743 Shims (6) is equal to the minimum measurement that was found in Step 8 minus 0.25 mm (.01 inch). Install all of the 8T-4183 Bolts with 8T-4223 Washers. Torque the bolts to 100 N m (74 lb ft).
