Tong Close Pressure sensor connectionsThis diagnostic code is associated with the tong close pressure sensor. The FMI 03 means that the ECM has determined that the voltage of the sensor signal circuit is above normal. The pressure sensor sends a variable voltage input to the ECM that will indicate the system hydraulic pressure as the tong closes.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The signal circuit for the sensor is open.
The signal circuit for the sensor is shorted to the +battery circuit.
The sensor has failed.
The power circuit or the return circuit is open.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Before performing this procedure, check for an active CID 0262 diagnostic code for the 5 volt sensor power supply. If an active CID 0262 diagnostic code is present, correct the problem and clear the diagnostic code before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0455 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR POWER AT THE SENSOR
Do not disconnect the harness connector from the sensor.
At the back of the 3 contact machine harness connector for the sensor, insert 7X-1710 Multimeter Probes along supply contact A (wire L730-OR) and along return contact B (wire L731-BR) for the voltage supply.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Measure the DC voltage from contact A to contact B. Expected Result:The voltage measurement is 5.0 0.5 DCV.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is 5.0 0.5 DCV. The power supply is correct. Proceed
