Lowering the Boom With the Engine Stopped.
When lowering the boom with the engine stopped, keep all personnel away from the boom area. The boom vent valve must be closed before the machine is operated. The boom can be raised normally with the valve open, but if the boom control is put in the lower position, the boom can drop suddenly out of control.
1. Move the hydraulic and antitravel lock control to the lower (inoperable) position. 2. Unlatch and open the left side front access door. 3. Open the boom vent valve completely. 4. Move the hydraulic and antitravel lock control to the upper (operable) position. 5. Cautiously move the boom control to the down position to slowly lower the boom. 6. Move the hydraulic lock control lever to the lower (inoperable) position 7. Close the boom vent valve. Close and secure the access door.Swinging the Machine With the Engine Stopped
1. To swing the machine, first apply the swing brake. 2. Disconnect the swing motor hydraulic lines.3. Attach an external lifting device to the boom (see "Raising the Boom With the Engine Stopped"). Raise the boom high enough to clear obstacles. 4. Release the swing brake.5. Lift and swing the boom.6. Apply the swing brake.7. Before starting repairs, lower, block or in some manner secure the boom.8. Connect the hydraulic lines.Raising the Boom With the Engine Stopped
Block or secure the boom in position when working around or under the raised boom.Be sure to reconnect all lines before attempting to operate the machine.
1. Open the bleed screw for the rod end of the right hand boom cylinder to relieve pressure in the hydraulic lines. 2. Disconnect the hose that goes to the rod end of the right hand boom cylinder.3. Attach an external lifting device to the boom.4. If the machine must be towed, refer to "Towing."Broken or Ruptured Lines
Do not activate the controls for any circuit that has been blocked out.Do not use a blocking plate in a line that connects a pump to a control valve. To ensure a replacement line has sufficient burst capacity, use the correct Caterpillar Part Number Part as a replacement.
If a machine is to be moved with a broken line in any circuit other than the track circuit, install a blocking plate.Install it in the line between the break and the oil supply. This will stop the leak and allow the machine to be moved under its own power.Keep the blocking plates in the machine tool box.Towing
Be sure the tow line is strong enough and is in good condition. Attach the tow line only to the eyes on the frame. Do not tow faster than 8 kph (5 mph).Shielding must be provided on the towing vehicle to protect the operator if the tow line breaks.Do not have tension on the tow line when inspecting it. Do not jerk the tow line; it may break.Use a tow bar if the machine is to be moved more than a few feet. If a tow bar is not available,
