Remove Front Drive Housing
START BY:a. remove oil and water pump driveb. remove accessory drive (front)c. remove fan drived. remove trunnione. remove crankcase breatherf. remove crankshaft front seal and wear sleeve 1. Remove the bolts, and remove cover (1) from the front drive housing. 2. Remove the bolts from plug (2), and use tooling (A) to remove plug (2) from the front drive housing. 3. Remove the bolts from shaft (3). Use tooling (A) to remove shaft (3), the gear and washer from the front drive housing.4. If necessary, remove the bearing from the gear. 5. Fasten a hoist to support (4), and remove the bolts to remove support (4) and base (5) as a unit from the front drive housing. The weight of the unit is 82 kg (180 lb.). 6. Remove fuel control lever (6) from fuel control linkage (7).
Fuel control linkage (7) must be moved for clearance to pull the front drive housing from the engine or damage to parts can be the result.
7. Fasten a hoist to front drive housing (8) with tooling (B). Remove two bolts, and install two 5/8"-11 NC guide bolts. Remove the remainder of the bolts from front drive housing (8), and remove it from the engine. The weight of front drive housing (8) is 209 kg (460 lb.).Install Front Drive Housing
1. Install two 5/8"-11 NC guide bolts in the end of the cylinder block. Fasten a hoist to front drive housing (1) with tooling (A). Put the gasket and front drive housing (1) in position on the guide bolts. Install the bolts to hold the front drive housing in position. Remove the guide bolts, and install the remainder of the bolts. Tighten all of the bolts evenly to their standard torques. Cut the gasket even with the bottom of the cylinder block. 2. Install fuel control lever (2) on the fuel control linkage. 3. Fasten a hoist to support (3), and put support (3) and base (4) as a unit in position on the front drive housing. Install the bolts to hold the unit in position. 4. Use tool group (B) to install the bearing in gear (5) if necessary. The bore in the bearing must be 90.00 0.06 mm (3.543 .002 in.) after assembly.5. Make sure the O-ring seal on shaft (7) has clean engine oil on it. Put washer (6) and gear (5) in position in the front drive housing, and install shaft (7). Install the bolts to hold these in position. 6. Make sure the O-ring seal on plug (8) has clean engine oil on it, and install plug (8) in the front drive housing. Install the bolts to hold the plug in position. 7. Make sure the O-ring seal on cover (9) has clean engine oil on it, and install cover (9) on the front drive housing.
