The engine power is derated. If the engine is shut down due to a high inlet air temperature, the power to the engine ECM must be cycled in order to restart the engine.Probable Causes

2. Check for High Ambient Air Temperature
A. Determine if the ambient air temperature is within the design specifications for the cooling system.

Repair: Determine the cause of the high ambient air temperature and correct the problem.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to the next step.
3. Check the Inlet Manifold Air Temperature Sensor
A. Use Cat ET to compare the value for the "Inlet Air Temperature" parameter to the ambient air temperature, under the following conditions:
- Engine OFF
- Engine cool
- Sensor removed from the engine

Repair: Troubleshoot the sensor circuit.

4. Check the Sensor Circuit Components
A. Inspect the suspected sensor, wiring, and connectors for damage and corrosion. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for information that is related to intermittent electrical problems.
