Removal Procedure for One Temperature Regulator
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the engine into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the water manifold.

Loosen hose clamps (2) . Remove bolts (1) . Remove regulator housing (3) .

Remove water temperature regulator (4) from regulator housing (3) .

Remove lip seal (5) from regulator housing (3) .

Remove gasket (7) from water manifold (6) . Do not reuse gasket (7) .

Remove bolts (8) from water manifold (6) .

Position water manifold (6) with a new gasket on the cylinder head. Install bolts (8) .

Position a new gasket (7) on water manifold (6) .

Install lip seal (5) in regulator housing (3) . Ensure that lip seal (5) is fully seated in the counterbore of regulator housing (3) .

Install water temperature regulator (4) in regulator housing (3) .

Position regulator housing (3) with a new gasket on the water manifold. Install bolts (1) . Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 50 9 N m (37 7 lb ft).
Position hose clamps (2) and tighten the clamps to a torque of 9 3 N m (80 27 lb in).Note: Refer to Specifications, "Water Lines" for more information on the position of hose clamps (3) .
Connect the upper radiator hose to the water manifold.
Fill the cooling system to the correct coolant level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" in the Maintenance Section for more information.Removal Procedure for Two Temperature Regulators

Disconnect the harness assembly from coolant temperature sensor (2) . Remove coolant temperature sensor (2)
