A - Taper area of connecting rod Additional Tools Needed
See the chart for additional tools needed for use with the tool groups.When some connecting rods are installed on the press group, the connecting rod part number must be put in a specific position, for removal and/or installation of a piston pin bearing. Use the charts that follow for a quick reference for the correct position of the connecting rod part number, and the tools needed according to the engine model and type of connecting rod. For those connecting rods in the chart that do not have a specific position for the part number, the connecting rod can be installed on the press group with the part number in either the "up" or "down" position. Assembly Of 5P8639 Press Group
1. Install 5P8643 Post Assembly (1) on base plate (2) as shown, and fasten it in position with bolt (3). 2. To operate the press group from the right side, install legs (4) in holes (A), (B) and (C), then install plate (5) and nuts (6) as shown. 3. To operate the press group from the left side, install legs (4) in holes (B), (C) and (D), then install plate (5) and nuts (6) as shown. 4. Put lock ring (7) on 5P9725 Cylinder (8), then turn the threads of cylinder (8) into plate (5). Tighten the setscrew in lock ring (7).5. Use bolt holes (E) to fasten the press group to a work bench.Removal And Installation Of Piston Pin Bearings - Tapered Connecting Rods
1. Heat the connecting rod in an oven to a temperature of 177°-204° C (350°-400° F). Never use a direct flame to heat a connecting rod. Be sure to remove the connecting rod bearings (bearings at crankshaft end of connecting rod), before the connecting rod is put in the oven. 2. Put the correct spacer (1) in base plate (2). For easier installation of spacer (1), lift ejector pin (3) far enough to put the spacer in alignment with the bore in base plate (2). 3. Put connecting rod (4) on base plate (2) so post assembly (5) is in the center of the piston pin bearing. Install pin (6) so it is in the center of the bore for the main bearing. 4. Install the correct adapter (7) and put hole (A) in alignment with hole (B) in the base plate. 5. Install the correct clamp bar (8) and clamp pin (9).
