Description of Change: The new plate gasket provides improved loading over the previous gasket. Also, a soft bead is incorporated onto the gasket for improved sealing.Adaptable To: The new 354-8484 Plate Gasket is a direct replacement for the existing 225-3101 Plate Gasket on the serial numbers that are listed above.Tooling marks on the surface of the cylinder block may be deep enough that the coating on the current spacer plate shim gasket will not seal properly. Use the following procedure in case the gasket does not seal properly.For improved sealing performance, apply 4C-9505 Gasket Sealant to the total surface on both sides of 354-8484 Plate Gasket. Apply a thin layer of less than 1 mm (0.04 inch) of 4C-9505 Gasket Sealant on each side of the 354-8484 Plate Gasket. Do not allow the 4C-9505 Gasket Sealant to be placed on the contact surfaces of the 3E-6772 Seal
Remove all previous material from mating surfaces.
For best results, clean all surfaces and dry all surfaces with a solvent that is free of residue.
Remove the cap and apply with the applicator.
The 4C-9505 Gasket Sealant or Loctite sealant is used as a dressing for the gasket. Spread the product with a spatula to a uniform film on one side of the 354-8484 Plate Gasket. Position the gasket on the assembly. Coat the second side of gasket and assemble.Note: Formulas that dry more slowly increase the time for the procedure.
Once the repairs are completed and the sealant has had adequate time to cure, the engine can be run.
The product can be removed from metal surfaces with isopropyl alcohol. If the sealant has been dried for a long time or at high temperatures, cover the sealant with alcohol and allow the sealant to soften overnight.
Clean hands.This change is effective for the serial numbers listed in the Table 1.
