Utilizing Illustrations 1 and 2 complete the following rework procedure
Tools needed: 5/32 allen wrench, 3/16 allenwrench, needle nose pliers, soft mallet, flat screwdriver, putty knife,9/16 wrench, 3/4 wrench and flashlight. Suggested additional tools foruse if the 1/4" manual pull shaft is broken off in the hydraulic piston;hand drill, EZ outs and a 1/4" x 28 tap. All bolts are to be reassembled usinga small amount of removable grade thread locker (Loctite 242 or equivalent). In most cases the air shutoff reworkcan be completed with the air shutoff valves in place (on the engine). If you choose to remove the air shutoff valves you will need to order thefollowing seals:
Make sure air shutoff?s are in the closed position.
Remove two allen head bolts retaining the hydrauliccylinder to the upper housing (be sure that o-ring seal between cylinderassy. and housing is retained.
Remove the four allen head bolts that holds thetwo aluminum housings together.
After bolts are removed, tap the outer aluminumhousing with a soft mallet to break loose.
Housings use two alignment dowels.
Remove spring housing cover.
Remove spring tensioning bolt.
Remove "C" clip from hex reset shaft.
Shaft spacer will fall when shaft isremoved, before removing hex shaft from housing use needle nose pliersto hold and remove spacer.
Remove gate assembly from valve.
Remove "C" clip and spring shaft from gate.
Reassemble spring shaft to new "one piece" gateusing a new "C" clip.
Ensure that the proper gate is used2296247 for the right hand and 2296249 for the left hand. Valve offsetshould be towards after cooler on both the old gate and the New Gate. Referto Illustration 3. Illustration 3
Place new gate as. into housing.
Insert hex shaft through the gate, leaving enoughroom to install spacer on hex shaft, use needle nose pliers to place spaceronto the shaft.
Using fingers, push hex shaft in fully, installnew "C" clip Note; make sure that hex shaft pointer is in alignment withthe words "OPEN" or "CLOSED".
With gate pivoted out, align spring shaft withspring shaft opening and allow gate to hang freely.
Apply thread locker onto the spring retainingbolt. Install spring, washer and hex head bolt into housing. Holding gatein closed position, turn bolt by hand until bolt threads engage with springshaft.
Tighten spring shaft bolt (with gate in fullyclosed position) until spring washer is flush with O-ring groove. Tightenone additional turn or until gold colored washer is about .010" below thehousing surface. See Illustration 4.
Illustration 4
Reinstall spring cover applying thread lockerto the hardware and tighten.
Clean the mating surfaces of both housings.
Apply a thin coating of high temperature RTV (Permatex26B or equivalent) to one housing.
Reinstall housing applying thread locker to thehardware and tighten.
Remove manual trip pull knob and shaft by gentlyholding shaft and tuning pull knob or stud counter clockwise. A vise withbrass jaw protectors may be necessary to hold shaft. See Illustration 5.
Illustration 5
Apply thread locker to both ends of the new (stainlesssteel) stud, screw knob on one end and reassemble into hydraulic cylinderand tighten.
Apply thread locker to the cylinder mounting boltsand reattach hydraulic cylinder assy. to air shutoff valve and tighten.
