(15) Alternator (B) Terminal
Refer to Illustration 14. Locate adjustment bolt (16) for tensioning the fan drive belts. Make a mark (17) on the thread of the adjustment bolt so that the adjustment bolt can be returned to the original position during assembly. The mark provides a starting point for adjusting belt tension.Note: Check the belt tension by hand before you proceed.

Starting Motor (22) Bolts
Refer to Illustration 19. Locate a bar that can be used to prevent the crankshaft from turning. The bar must be capable of engaging with the flywheel teeth (23) in order to prevent the crankshaft from turning while the crankshaft pulley is removed.Note: The bolt that secures the crankshaft pulley is tight so the bar must be capable of being held secure without slipping. The bar must also be a good fit to the gear teeth in order to prevent damage to the gear teeth.

(23) Flywheel Teeth
Refer to Illustration 20. With the bar secured in position to prevent the crankshaft from turning, loosen the bolt (24) that secures the crankshaft pulley and remove the crankshaft pulley.Note: The bolt (24) is tight. The assembly torque for this bolt is 325 N m (240 lb ft).

Crankshaft Pulley (24) Bolt
Install the new crankshaft pulley. Make sure that the keyway in the crankshaft pulley engages smoothly with the key on the crankshaft. Use the bar to prevent the crankshaft from rotating while you tighten the bolt to a torque of 325 N m (240 lb ft).
Install the starting motor. Tighten the two bolts evenly to a torque of 50 N m (37 lb ft).
Install the new fan pulley and the spacer. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 28 N m (21 lb ft).
Refer to Illustration 21. Assemble the new belts to the crankshaft pulley, the fan drive pulley and the alternator pulley. Install the belts with the writing on the belts as shown.

Correct Orientation for Fan Drive Belts
Engage the adjustment bolt (16) in bracket (19) and turn the adjustment bolt in order to tension the belts. Use the mark that was previously put on the threads to establish initial tension. Compare this with the tension that you observed in Step 16. A correctly adjusted set of new belts will deflect by 8 mm (0.31 inch) to 9 mm (0.35 inch) when a 98 N (22 lb) load is applied halfway
