To prevent personal injury or equipment damage from failure of the hydraulic test equipment or associated circuit components because of blocked pump flow, make sure that the test equipment valves are fully open before starting the engine.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Position the machine on level ground.
Stop the engine.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing And Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".
Install the following tools in accordance with the circuit diagram. Refer to Illustration 1.
Disconnect pilot line (9) from tee (8) of pilot pump (12) .
Install 9/16-18 UN plug in the open end of pilot line (9) .
Disconnect makeup line (5) from elbow (2) of swing motor (1) .
Install tee (3) to elbow (2) .
Connect makeup line (5) to tee (3) .
Install portable hydraulic tester (6) between tee (3) and tee (8) .
Install multitach group (13) on engine (10) .
Start the engine.
Place the machine controls at the following settings: Power Mode Switch ON and engine speed dial in the HIGH IDLE position. Maintain the maximum no-load speed at 2210 60 rpm with the low idle switch in the OFF position.ReferenceMake reference to Testing And Adjusting, "Operational Checks" for engine rpm settings.
Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 55° 5°C (131° 9°F).Test
Slowly turn valve (14) on portable hydraulic tester (6) clockwise until the pressure gauge of the portable hydraulic tester shows a reading of 3450 kPa (500 psi).
Record the pilot pump flow at 3450 kPa (500 psi) in the following table.
