The system is a flexible modular monitoring system that includes the following devices:
Main display module
Action lamp
Action alarm
Speedometer/tachometer module
Gauge module
Switches and sensorsThe main display module is the brain of the Caterpillar Monitoring System. This module receives information from the switches, sensors, and other electronic control modules on the machine via the CAT Data Link. The main display module processes all of the information. The module then activates various outputs. The outputs could be in the display area of the main display module, the quad gauge module, the speedometer/tachometer module, the action lamp, or the action alarm. The display components show the condition of the machine systems. The operator or the service person can also obtain system diagnostic information.When power is applied, the machine serial number is used in order to determine the type of machine that is being operated. The module will perform only the intended functions for the machine. The main display module is required for the monitoring system to operate.On a machine with a rear engine ( 627G, 637G, and 657G), the main module can also show the current state of the rear engine ECM and the rear transmission ECM. When the tractor Caterpillar Monitoring System is in tractor mode the tractor mode lamp will be illuminated. In the tractor mode, information is shown for the tractor portion of the wheel tractor-scraper by one of the following methods:

Action lampWhen the Caterpillar Monitoring System is in scraper mode, the scraper mode lamp will be illuminated. In the scraper mode, information is shown for the scraper system of the wheel tractor-scraper by one of the following methods:

The main display module contains the following:Ten alert indicators (5) - Show abnormal conditions in the machine.Six digit display area (8) - This area contains seven unit indicators and a service indicator. The display can show the following information for the operator mode: engine rpm, service hour meter, units and harness code. The operator or the service person can select the information that is shown in the display area.Seven different unit indicators - These indicators can be shown in the display area. The unit indicators that can be shown are "°C", "kPa", "MILES", "KM", "RPM", "LITERS" and "HOURMETER" symbol. These indicators show
