Schematic of the steering mode sensorThis diagnostic code is associated with the steering mode sensor. The FMI F13 means that the ECM has determined that the sensor signal is not properly calibrated. The possible causes of this failure are listed below:
The sensor may not be calibrated properly.
The ECM has been flashed with new software.
The sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed (unlikely).Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Also, ensure that the CID 747 FMI F03 or FMI F04 are not active. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 747 FMI F13 is active before performing this procedure.System Response:The machine response is listed below:
A Category 2 warning will appear on the Computerized Monitoring System (CMS) for the sensor.
A fault on the steering mode sensor will default to rear steering. The other steering modes will not be available until the fault is no longer present.Test Step 1. CHECK THE CALIBRATION OF THE SENSOR
Perform the necessary adjustment and calibration procedures for the steering mode sensor. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Steering Mode Switch - Calibrate" section of the service manual for these procedures. Always do the sensor calibration under the following conditions:
FRONT (c03)
COORDINATED (c04)
CRAB (c05)
REAR (c06)
Observe the status of the CID 747 FMI F13.Results:
OK - The CID 747 FMI F13 is not active. The calibration corrected the condition that caused the CID 747 FMI F13. Resume normal operation.STOP
NOT OK - The CID 747 FMI F13 is still active.Repair: The diagnostic code is still active. Verify that the correct software has been flashed into the ECM or that the correct ECM is installed on the machine. Then repeat the calibration. If the diagnostic code is still active and the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Verify that the sensor and associated circuits are correct before you replace the ECM.STOP
