(6) Power train oil filter pressure port (outlet) The transmission charge section of the power train oil pump sends oil to the transmission charge filter.Oil from the transmission charge pump enters filter base (2) at inlet (3). The oil goes through the filter base to the filter housing. Oil fills the space between the inside of the filter housing and the filter element. Normally, oil goes through the filter element and the oil leaves the filter base through outlet (4). The filter element prevents debris from going to the transmission hydraulic control.If the filter element becomes full of debris, the restriction to the flow of oil causes a pressure increase. The increase in pressure causes bypass valve (1) to open. Then, the oil will flow directly from inlet (3) to outlet (4). The bypass switch sends a signal to the power train ECM.Note: The filter bypass condition can be monitored through Caterpillar Advisor.
