988G Powertrain Oil Filter Rework InstructionsThis rework is urgent only for machines thathave already had the powertrain filter element replaced. If a machine hasnot had the element replaced, the rework should be scheduled to be doneat the same time as the first filter change. If a machine has already hadthe powertrain filter element changed, this rework should be performedas soon as possible.
Follow Service Manual procedures for removal offilter element.
Remove 152-1130 Retainer and 7N-1228 Spring from166-9361 Stud.
Remove and discard 166-9361 Stud from cover
Install new 208-8661 Stud in cover. Use 154-9731Tread Lock compound. Tighten to a torque of 170 +/- 30 Nm (126 +/- 22 lbft)
Install 7N-1228 Spring and 152-1130 Retainer on208-8661 Stud.
Install 8M-6393 Retaining Ring in groove on 208-8661Stud. The 8M-6393 Retaining Ring should keep the 152-1130 Retainer in placeon the 208-8661 Stud. It may be necessary to compress the spring and retainerto install the 8M-6393 Ring. (See Illustration 1)
Follow Service Manual procedures for installationof filter element.
As an alternate procedure, the 166-9361 Stud maybe reworked into a 208-8661 Stud by machining a groove for the retainingring. See Illustration 2.
Illustration 1 ILLUSTRATION 2 - (All Dimensions in MM) On machines that have had the filterchanged previously, if the 152-1130 Retainer was lost during the filterchange oil will be continuously bypassing the filter, resulting in a contaminatedoil system. Therefore, the new filter element may plug before the normalmaintenance interval of 500 hours. This program allows for an additionalfilter element per machine to aid in cleaning the system. These elementsare to be changed at 250 hours or when
