The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program.   Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
HOW TO IDENTIFY AND ORDER MISSING SERVICE LETTERS, 0337, 0374 U-22 A-17 AU-15 B-10 C-20 E-16 O-16 TT-1 TA-1 TM-1 It has been some time since we explained the Service Letter numbering system to dealers, and since there are new personnel using Service Letters, it is timely to repeat the message. Occasionally a Service Letter is lost, misplaced, or never received by the appropriate personnel. By understanding our Service Letter numbering system, you can audit your file to determine if it is complete. Each Service Letter produced by the Service Department General Offices in Peoria, Illinois has a series of letter and number codes in the upper right corner. An understanding of these codes is required for correctly filing and locating Service Letters. Identification First, determine the letter code below that is applicable to your sales area. Then, check to see that you have all of the numbers in sequence for your code, i.e., A-1, A-2, A-3 up to the last Service Letter you received. There should be no missing numbers for the code letter applicable to your area. The code letters are: U - All United States Dealers (USCD) A - All Caterpillar Americas Co. dealers except Canada AU - Australia B - Brazil C - Canada E - Caterpillar Far East Ltd. O - Caterpillar Overseas, S.A. and Caterpillar Tractor Co., Ltd. TT - TEPS (Truck Engine Dealers) TA - TEPS (Ag Dealers) TM - TEPS (Marine Dealers) The number after each letter identifies the number of Service Letters that have been sent to that sales area as of the date of the letter. Each number begins with 1 (one) for the first letter distributed at the beginning of each year. For example, the code U-1 in the upper right corner of a Service Letter indicates that this is the first Service Letter distributed to the USCD dealers in 1984. Distribution All Service Letters are not distributed worldwide. Some Service Letters are not applicable to all sales areas due to differences in machine populations, service applications, or government regulations. If a Service Letter is not mailed to a sales area(s), the code letter(s) does not appear on that Service Letter. Occasionally, there will be a decimal number. This means that this Service Letter was sent to only a few of the dealers in that sales area. For example, U-4.1 means that only a few USCD dealers received the letter. This occurs infrequently but is used in those cases in which it is known that only certain dealers within the sales area have the machines listed
