Remove the differential and the bevel gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Differential and Bevel Gear - Remove".Note: The same disassembly procedure is used for the front differential pinion and for the rear differential pinion.

Remove six bolts (1) and the washers. Remove retainer (2) .

Remove lip seal (3) from retainer (2) .

Use a hammer and a punch to bend the crimp away from slot (5) in pinion shaft (4) .Note: Nut (6) may be reused if the collar is not cracked during removal or during restaking.

Use Tooling (A) to remove nut (6) from the pinion shaft.

Remove washer (7) from the pinion shaft.

Put the pinion housing in a suitable press, as shown. Remove pinion shaft (4) from the pinion housing by pressing the shaft out of bearing cone (8) .

Use a suitable press and Tooling (B) to remove bearing cone (9) from pinion shaft (4) .

Remove bearing cone (8) from the pinion housing.

Remove bearing cup (10) from the pinion housing.

Remove bearing cup (11) and O-ring seal (12) from the opposite end of the pinion housing.
