4. Install four pinion assemblies on the spider. 5. Install thrust washer (15) in the housing. Make sure the grooves (14) in the washer are in alignment with the dowels (13) in the housing.6. Install gear (12) on the thrust washer. 7. Fasten a hoist to the spider (18) and install the unit in the housing. Make sure groove in each pinion assembly is in alignment with its dowel in the housing.8. Install gear (17) and thrust washer (16). 9. Heat differential bearing (19) to a temperature of 275°F (135°C) and install it on housing (20). 10. Fasten a hoist to housing (20) and put it in position on housing (21). Make sure grooves in thrust washer (16) are in alignment with the dowels in housing (20). Install the bolts that hold housings (20) and (21) together. Tighten these bolts to a torque of 820 75 lb.ft. (1125 100 N m). 11. Fasten a hoist to differential group (22) and install it in its original position on the bevel gear (23). Install the bolts that hold differential group and bevel gear together. Tighten these bolts to a torque of 500 75 lb.ft. (680 100 N m).12. Heat the other differential bearing to a temperature of 275°F (135°C) and install it on differential group (22). 13. Fasten a hoist to the differential and bevel gear and put it in its original position on the carrier housing. Install cups (24) on the differential bearings. 14. Install adjusting rings (25) in carrier housing. Install bearing caps (26) with the nuts that hold them. Tighten these nuts to a torque of 800 100 lb.ft. (1090 135 N m). Install cotter pins in the nuts. 15. Heat bearings (27) to a temperature of 275°F (135°C) and install bottom bearing on the bevel pinion (28). 16. Lower the temperature of the bearing cups (29) and install these in the bevel pinion housing. 17. Install two 5/8"-11 NC forged eyebolts in the bevel pinion housing. Fasten a hoist to the housing (30) and install it on the bevel pinion. 18. Install bearing and locknut (32). While pinion (28) is turned, tighten locknut (32) by hand until it is against the bearing.19. Loosen locknut (32) until the end play of pinion (28) is approximately .010 in. (0.25 mm). Check end play with tool group (G).20. Install lock (33) and locknut (31). 21. Tighten locknut (31) with tool (B) to a torque of 150 50 lb.ft. (205 70 N m). Bend tabs back on lock (33) that holds locknut (31) and locknut (32). 22. Check the end play of pinion (28).23. With locknut (32), lock (33) and locknut (31) installed, the correct end play for pinion (28) is .002 to .005 in. (0.05 to 0.13 mm).24. If the end play is not correct, locknut (31) and lock (33) must be removed and locknut (32) adjusted. Do Steps 20 through 23 again. 25. Install shims (34) equal to the thickness
