Replace ECM Procedure
Replace Engine ECM
Certain machines are equipped with an engine ECM immobilizer. These machines need the engine ECM immobilizer uninstalled. If unable to uninstall the immobilizer, a new engine ECM may be needed. Replace and flash the engine ECM before replacing the machine ECM. Refer to Machine Security System - Uninstall.
Capture engine ECM replacement file.
Replace the former engine ECM with the new ECM.
Flash the latest software into the new engine ECM.
Copy the ECM replacement file into the new engine ECM.Replace Machine ECM
If possible, capture an ECM replacement file from the machine ECM before replacing the ECM.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors from the ECM.
Verify that the part number of the replacement ECM is correct.
Install the replacement ECM.
Connect the machine harness to the ECM.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switches to the ON position.
If necessary, use Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service Tool to install the configuration software. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Software - Install" section of this manual.Note: If this ECM is a reused ECM, check the remaining operator information before flashing. The operator list may need modified to fit the machine usage.
Install the Machine security System after replacing the ECM. Set up the default operator as type "Passcode", access level of "Master" and an operator name of "Operator_1". The passcode should be the last four digits of the machine serial number.Refer to Configuration - Machine Security System.
