Troubleshooting Procedures
Service Notes: Before troubleshooting one of these faults, move the shift lever through all positions. Ensure the fault being analyzed is on hold.
FMI 02
The control detects faults that occur in the shift lever switches, neutralizer switch and related harness circuits. Diagnostic codes CID 660 through 667 are only shown as ACTIVE faults. Only CID 668 can be an ACTIVE or INACTIVE fault.
Some machines have a shift lever with a 6 and 12 contact connector while others have a shift lever with an 8 and 10 contact connector. The shift levers are the same except for the connectors. Use the connector contact information that applies to the shift lever of the machine being serviced. The neutralizer switch must NOT be activated during this test.STEP 1. Determine the system fault CID.* ACTIVE CID is "666", "667" and/or "668"; shift lever and/or neutralizer switch circuits are not correct. Go to Step 3.* ACTIVE CID is "660" through "665" and "668"; shift lever switch and/or ground circuits not correct. Go to Step 2* INACTIVE CID is "668"; shift lever circuit fault no longer exists. Check harness and harness connections for damage and poor connections Clear the fault. Move the shift lever through each position several times. Wiggle the shift lever to find intermittent problems in the lever. Check the control for the shift lever faults. If the control detected a fault, replace the shift lever.STEP 2. CHECK SHIFT LEVER GROUND CIRCUIT- Turn the disconnect switch to OFF position. Disconnect the 8 and 10 or 6 and 12 contact shift lever connectors. At the 6 or 8 contact machine harness connector for the shift lever, check for continuity from ground to contact 2.* If there is continuity; the shift lever ground circuit is correct. Go to Step 4.* If there is NO continuity; the shift lever ground circuit in the harness has a fault. Repair or replace the harness.STEP 3. CHECK SHIFT LEVER POWER CIRCUITS - Disconnect the 8 and 10 or 6 and 12 contact shift lever connectors. At the 6 or 8 contact machine harness connector for the shift lever, check for battery voltage between contact 2 (ground) and contact 1. The neutralizer switch must NOT be activated.* If battery voltage is measured; the shift lever power circuits are correct. Go to Step 4.* If battery voltage is NOT measured; the power circuit harness or neutralizer switch is not correct. Repair or replace the harness and/or switch.STEP 4. CHECK SHIFT LEVER - See the topic Shift Lever Test in the Testing And Adjusting section to check the shift lever switches in neutral and each of the direction and gear positions. Use the shift lever connectors for the tests.* If the shift lever is correct; harness or harness connector problem. Go to Step 5.* If the shift lever is NOT correct; there is a fault in the shift lever. Replace the shift lever.STEP 5. CHECK HARNESS FROM SHIFT LEVER TO CONTROL - Use the machine Electrical System Schematic to check for
