START BY:a) remove wheels Bearing cone (1) and Duo-Cone seal (2) are removed to prevent damage to surfaces.1. Remove bearing cone (1), Duo-Cone seal (2) and two guards (3). 2. Put a block under brake shoe (5) as support for the brake shoe when springs (4) are removed.3. Use tool (A) to remove two springs (4) from between the two brake shoes.4. Remove the block from under brake shoe (5). Lower the end of the brake shoe away from the slack adjuster. 5. Remove the wire and loosen bolts (7). Remove the springs, retainers and washers from the back sides of pins (8) and (9). It will be necessary to use two persons to remove each brake shoe.6. Remove pins (8) and (9). Remove brake shoes (5) and (6). The weight of each brake shoe is approximately 45 kg (100 lb.). Remove the springs, retainers and washers from the other end of the pins. 7. Remove the wire and two bolts (10). Remove pin (11) and two rollers (13) from the brake shoe.8. Remove pin (12). 9. Remove rivets (15) and linings (14) if a replacement is necessary.10. Use tooling (B) to remove two bearings (16) from the brake shoe.Install Brake Shoes
1. Fasten linings (1) to the brake shoe with rivets (2). The maximum gap between the lining and the brake shoe must be no more than 0.10 mm (.004 in.).2. Use tooling (A) to install bearings (3) in the brake shoe. 3. Install pin (4) in the brake shoe so that dimension (X) is 17.8 mm (.700 in.). 4. Install pin (5) and two rollers (6) in the brake shoe. Install the wire between the two bolts. Make sure the flat area on each pin is in alignment with the threaded hole in the axle housing.5. Use two men to put brake shoes (7) and (9) in position. Install pins (8). Put a block in position under brake shoe (9) for support until the springs are installed between the two brake shoes. 6. Install washer (10), retainer (11) and spring (12) on each end of the pins. Install the bolts in the axle housings that hold the pins in position. Install the wire between the bolts. 7. Use tool (B) to install springs (13). 8. Make sure all the surfaces that come in contact with Duo-Cone seal (15) are clean and dry. Use tool (C) to install Duo-Cone seal (15). Put a small amount of oil on the metal surfaces of the Duo-Cone seal. See Installation Of Duo-Cone Floating Seals.9. Install bearing cone (16).10. Install two guards (14).END BY:a) install wheels
