Schematic of the Autolube SystemThis diagnostic code is recorded when the VIDS ECM reads the current of the solenoid and the current is above normal. The circuit is shorted to ground. The possible causes of this failure are listed here:
The energize circuit of the solenoid is shorted to ground.
The return circuit of the solenoid is shorted to ground.
The solenoid has failed.
The VIDS ECM has failed. This is unlikely. System Response:This failure will disable the autolube system or the autolube system will operate intermittently.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID.
Remove the autolube solenoid from the circuit.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the VIDS message center. Expected Result:The diagnostic code changed from CID 0558 FMI 06 to CID 0558 FMI 05.Results:
OK - The diagnostic code has changed to CID 0558 FMI 05. The circuit is correct. The solenoid has failed. Repair: Repeat this CID 0558 FMI 06 procedure in order to verify the solenoid failure. Replace the autolube solenoid. Stop.
NOT OK - The diagnostic code of CID 0558 FMI 06 remains active. The harness is shorted. Proceed to test step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect machine harness connector J1 from the VIDS ECM.
At the socket for the autolube solenoid, place a jumper between contact 1 (wire 801-PK) and contact 2 (wire 559-YL).
At the machine harness connector, measure the resistance from the contact J1-9 (wire 801-PK) to all possible ground sources. Expected Result:The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The harness is correct. Proceed to test step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is less than 5000 ohms. The autolube circuit is shorted to ground.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the harness. Stop.Test Step 3. CHECK IF THE FAILURE REMAINS.
Inspect the contacts of the machine harness connector and the autolube solenoid. Clean the contacts, if necessary.
Reconnect the J1 and J2 machine harness connectors to the VIDS ECM and reinstall the autolube solenoid.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Acknowledge any active diagnostic codes by pressing the "OK" key on the VIDS keypad.
Operate the machine.
Check for an active CID 0558 FMI 06 diagnostic code on the message center. Expected Result:The diagnostic code CID 0558 FMI 06 for the solenoid is NOT shown on the message center. Results:
OK - The diagnostic code CID 0558 FMI 06 is NOT present. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time. The initial failure was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Repair: Resume normal operations. Stop.
NOT OK - The diagnostic code CID 0558 FMI 06 is present. The VIDS ECM has failed. Repair: It is unlikely that an ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform the CID 0558 FMI 06 procedure again. If the failure
