Motor (9), pump (8), actuator (3), solenoid valve (4), manual release valve (11), main relief valve (6), counter balance valves (10), the oil reservoir, and suction screen are all contained in the same powered access component. The powered access components are mounted in the inside of the platform group and connected to two switches. One switch is mounted onto the handrail assembly. A second switch is mounted in the service center to the left of the stairway and is accessible from ground level.Raise

(11) Manual release valve When a stairway control switch has been activated, electric motor (9) begins to rotate pump (8). Pump (8) begins to pull oil from the internal oil reservoir through the filter screen. The oil is directed by solenoid valve (4) to actuator (3) through counter balance valves (10). Actuator (3) begins to rotate. Since the actuator shaft is bolted to the staircase, the stairway begins to raise.A limit switch is located at the rear of the actuator shaft. When the stairway has been raised, the switch plate that is bolted on the rear of the actuator shaft triggers the limit switch to stop the stairway from raising.Lower

The oil is directed by solenoid valve (4) to actuator (3) through counter balance valves (10). Actuator (3) begins to rotate. Since the actuator shaft is bolted to the staircase, the stairway begins to lower.Manual release handle (14) for emergency lowering is connected to manual release valve (11). When the emergency handle is pulled, manual release valve (11) opens and releases the pressure in the system back to the reservoir. Triggering the manual release will lower the stairway in approximately 3 seconds.
