Problem 1
The steering pump makes noise and the steering cylinder rods do not move freely. There are bubbles of air in the oil.Probable Cause
The viscosity of the oil is incorrect.
There is air in the steering hydraulic circuit.
The oil level in the hydraulic tank is low.
The relief valve opens at a low oil pressure.
There is a loose connection of the oil line on the inlet side of the steering pump.
The steering pump has too much wear.Problem 2
The temperature of the oil is too hot.Probable Cause
The viscosity of the oil is incorrect.
The relief valve opens at a low oil pressure.
A steering pump has too much wear.
The bypass check valve for the oil coolers is stuck open. This does not allow the oil to flow through the oil coolers.
There is a restriction in an oil passage.
The unloading spool in the secondary steering diverter valve is stuck in the CLOSED position.
The load on the steering system is too high.Problem 3
The output of a steering pump is low.Probable Cause
The oil level in the hydraulic tank for the steering and brake systems is low.
The viscosity of the oil is incorrect.
The pump margin pressure setting is too low.
The steering pump has too much wear.Problem 4
The pressure of the hydraulic oil is low.Probable Cause
The relief valve is not operating correctly.
The relief valve setting is lower than the pressure cutoff setting for the steering pump.
The pressure cutoff setting for the steering pump is low.
A steering pump has too much wear.
An O-ring seal in the steering system has failed.Problem 5
The machine does not turn when the STIC is moved.Probable Cause
The oil level in the hydraulic tank for the steering and brake systems is low.
A signal path may be blocked in the steering system.
An orifice may be plugged in the steering system.
The output of a steering pump is low.
There is contamination in the hydraulic system.
A steering pump has too much wear.
The pilot relief valve or the seal is damaged.
The seal around the seat for the pilot relief valve fails at higher system pressures.
The steering control valve spool will not move from the NO STEER position.Problem 6
The machine attempts to turn when the machine is in a full turn. The STIC is moved in the direction of the turn.Probable Cause
The adjustment of the stop assembly for a steering neutralizer valve is incorrect.
The resolver ball in the shuttle valve is damaged.

The machine turns erratically.Probable Cause
A damping orifice may be plugged.
The steering pump controls are not set properly. Check the margin stem.
The steering control valve spool may be sticking. Check for contamination.
The steering pilot valve may be sticking. Check for contamination.
The margin stem for the pump control may be sticking. Check for contamination.
The oil is too cold.Problem 8
The machine turns too slowly in both directions.Probable Cause
There is a restriction in the pilot lines from the steering pilot valve to the steering control valve.
